2017 BURGER BOAT COMPANY Explorer Motor Yacht

NORTHLAND is a luxury explorer yacht with a steel hull and bulbous bow built in the USA to a high level of finish by the Burger Boat Company.  Original owner and Captain worked closely with the yard to oversee the construction of this custom specification project from the design board of Luis de Basto.  This yacht is based in South Florida, and a part of her design premise was to have a reasonable draft for this style of vessel, enabling Bahamas waters friendly usage. Additionally, to have a lower maintenance exterior allowing regular operating with a modest number of crew. The cockpit was designed for offshore fishing although all water activities benefit from the access (tender operation).  

Since her launch in 2017 this owner has kept this beauty moving with extensive travels, including a passage to Norway on her own bottom, utilizing her 4000+ mile range.  Dependable CAT power, ABS A1 build quality, strong equipment list are all contributing factors to the success of this venture while keeping practicality as a primary driver.  

Covered walk-around side decks with entry doors to either side (starboard side opens to salon foyer, port side is a crew door to galley) and moving forward are steps up to a Portuguese bridge.  Sea stairs can attach to either side at boarding gates onto the aft deck.  Aft boarding available via hydraulic passerelle gangway deployed from the starboard side cockpit step.  A four stateroom plus crew general arrangement is oriented towards family use, with a Master suite aft on the bridge deck.  Two diesel powered tenders are on the forward working deck, allowing for a well utilized fishing cockpit aft.  

Having returned to her home dock in Jupiter, FL, where she will remain while being marketed, NORTHLAND is ready to offer more world class experiences to her second owners.  

Four ensuite owner and guest staterooms. The Master Stateroom is on the bridge deck, aft of the pilothouse, and features a king-size bed in spacious privacy with amazing window views and direct access to the bridge afterdeck with settee, table, and chaise lounge chairs.  Three guest staterooms are on the lower deck, two cabins with walk-around queen beds and one with large twin berths, plus an extra pullman berth.  Accommodations for up to 9 people.

The interior is contemporary styled with an earth tone color palate accented with colorful artwork and a centerpiece "floating" stairway on a background abstract art piece featuring ocean jellyfish.  The interior woodwork throughout is an attractive satin finished walnut with horizontal grain pattern.  In various areas there are light colored wall panels which are alternated with walnut wood framing to lighten the ambiance of the rooms.  The overheads have flush mounted LED lighting (all on dimmers), and most rooms have wood trimmed ceiling features.  Lighting and stereo throughout the vessel interior controlled by a Crestron system.  The window blinds through most of the deckhouse are Hunter Douglas silhouette style adjustable to the desired level of natural light.  The wood flooring through most of the interior walkways is a German weathered Oak with carpeting in all staterooms, the seating area of the Salon, and the forward Library/Theater.  The pilothouse sole has beautiful maple and ebony decking.  There are day heads on both the main and bridge deck which are modern styled with glass vanity tops, mirror, light colored wall covering, and designer countertop basin sinks/faucets.  The day head soles are White Carrera marble, and this same marble is found on the upper and lower staircase landings as well as the soles of all the other heads on the yacht.  All the stateroom heads on the boat have glass shower enclosures with shower wands and rain heads.  The HVAC system airflow is through ceiling level wood diffuser vents which blend into the decor.  There are two make-up air units for the interior to aid fresh circulation.

There are two entry doors to the salon; from the starboard side and from the aft deck.  Entering the starboard side door there is a coat closet aft and a day head entry forward.  Looking aft to the salon there is a custom upholstered sofa along the port side with a corner table forward and decor lamp.  Next there are two comfortable upholstered armchairs on the forward side.  Aft is a sofa chaise lounge with two large leather ottomans in the center with a wood cocktail table between them.  Across is a stand-up bar along the starboard side which has white textured panels surrounding its base, a foot railing, and a wood accent band just beneath the bar top. From the counter behind the bar is a pop-up 50-inch HDTV.  Above the bar is a wood panel ceiling feature.  The seating area is carpeted with Griege patterned Stanton Supreme Bliss, and the sofa backrest cushions and chaise upholstery are complimentary colored and accented with decor pillows and colorful abstract artwork.  The rear wall of the salon has complimenting cutout, sheer designer curtains.

Salon/bar equipment includes:

Moving forward from the salon on the starboard side passing the stairway you enter the Dining area.  The rectangular dining table has a glass top with thick wood framing and wood base.  There are eight high-back, upholstered chairs with arms on the chairs at each end.  The outboard side windows offer great visibility, as these are the hull side glass (no walkaround deck at this stage of the yacht moving forward).  Above the table is paneled wood ceiling feature with inset lighting.  The inboard wall has a large colorful abstract nautical painting.  

Between the stairway and the Dining area is the swing door entrance to the galley with a hidden service area/pass-through and wine cooler.  The aft wall of the Dining area has three large cabinet doors concealing the secure storage of china, flatware, and serving ware.  Beneath the windows are cabinets with secure storage for stemware and glasses.  These windows have Silhouette blinds for privacy and light control. A Crestron wall panel allows adjustments for sound and lighting.  Moving forward are double doors which open to the Library/Theater. 

The theme for this room is comfortable relaxation, and it starts with the seating.  A large L-shaped upholstered sofa is along the aft wall and to the port side.  Followed on port side by a marble top end table with decorative lamp and storage cabinet below.  To the center of the room is a large pillow cushioned armchair.  To the front side of this pit-grouping is a pair of Christian Liaigre Latin lounge chairs with decor pillow.  In the center are two large leather ottomans and two wood cocktail tables.  The room has plush carpeting, and the ceiling has a wood trim ring feature which compliments the bookcases along the forward wall.  In the center of the bookcases is a wall mounted 60-inch HDTV which is matched with a very high-quality theater sound system incorporated into the wall and overhead.  Along the starboard side is a two-chair desk, phone set, and extended wood counterspace.  Windows on either side are the hull side windows and wood boxed inside treated with Silhouette blinds.  There is an iPad programmed to the media servers, audio controls, and lighting.  Duplicating those same basic functions is a wall mounted Crestron panel near the entry door.  To either side of the media screen there are hidden door panels which open to a technical room behind the bookcase where the A/V, lighting, and some communications equipment are in three rack storage cases.

Entertainment system includes:

From the interior, access to the pilothouse from the main deck is up the central stairway.  At the top of the stairs is a marble landing where there is a bridge day head to the starboard side. Moving forward is an entry door to the Pilothouse with nautical wood deck sole, and then two steps up to the helm level.  There are wing doors to either side which lead out to the Portuguese bridge with wing docking stations.  Outside the wing doors aft there are stairs down to the side decks.  The pilothouse has a reverse angled windshield with a wiper system, defroster, and a centerline helm.  Two Stidd Admiral helm chairs are facing the console where there is a five-screen glass helm array, neatly wood framed matching the angle of the windshield. Instrument controls, engine and thruster controls, jog steering, and smaller data screens are at top the center cabinet with two phone style VHF mic-handsets remote mounted on the cabinet face.  Above there is a down angled panel of equipment including engine displays, radio controls, compass and GPS displays.  To the port side of the helm there is a lighted chart table with chart drawers below.  A second chart table is to starboard side of the helm.  Behind the helm chairs is a raised L-shape settee and wood table.  Above and behind are cabinets with SAT communications, weather, and nav data gear.  Another cabinet here has bookshelves of ships papers and manuals.  To the starboard side aft in the pilothouse is a set of stairs leading up to an electric operated sliding door opening to the flybridge.

Entering the flybridge from the pilothouse stairway to starboard, the decking is Esthec and the area is weather protected by the substantial hardtop and three-sided polycarbonate enclosure. The helm console is centerline and is two steps up from the rest of the deck with a Stidd captain's chair flanked by plush cushioned companion bench seating.  The port side lounge is larger than starboard and can fit several guests.  The overhead is yacht finish with LED lighting, flush mounted stereo speakers, and decorative trim feature.  Aft from the helm along the port side is a large dining table with U-shaped settee, inlaid teak Release table, and three teak/stainless/canvas chairs.  This comfortable setting can easily seat 8 for meal service.  Across to the starboard side is a slightly curved L-shaped bar with four fixed cushioned barstools with footrails.  Aft of the bar area is a console with opening top containing two electric Gaggenau grill tops.  Aft beyond the rear edge of the hardtop is a raised hot tub/jacuzzi spa which has a step up on the rear side with safety railing.  To the port side of the spa and forward to the back of the dining settee is a large sun pad area with decorative pillows.  The aft flybridge is encircled by polished stainless railings and the aft bulwarks have an accenting Esthec cap.  Aft to the starboard side is a stairway leading down to the bridge deck aft.

The Master Stateroom is located on the bridge deck and features private access to the covered bridge afterdeck along with amazing window views.  There is a King size berth on a raised soft side platform with lighting beneath.  Marble top nightstands with drawers and wall lamps above are to either side of the berth.  The stateroom is plushy carpeted and to the starboard side of the room there are his and hers closets and dressing areas.  Separated by a fold top opening make-up vanity with mirror and leather chair.  A twelve drawer dresser is built into the aft corner and are six drawer cabinets inside two of the other hanging closets, plus a security safe.  In another cabinet is a set of front-loading washer and dryer.  Those amazing windows are individually treated with Silhouette blinds to allow measured light or when needed there are full length blackout curtains capable of making the room dark at midday.  On the forward side of the stateroom are double frosted glass/wood doors opening to the Master head.  Entering the head there is a mirror above the double sink designer vanity and faucets with wood cabinets below.  To the port side is a large glass shower enclosure that has dual rain heads and two sets of shower fixtures.  Various marble, wood ceiling trim, a window, and lighting combine to make this a very stylish area.  To the starboard side of the head compartment are full length mirrors and door opening to a private lavatory room.  Back in the stateroom to the portside forward is a flush mounted smart TV with flush ceiling surround sound system.  A ceiling soffit feature offers dimmable, indirect lighting.  On the aft port side of the cabin is a door which opens to a semi-private balcony where there are two custom cushioned chaise loungers and an aft settee with Release inlayed wood table and chairs.  Stainless railings surround this afterdeck area with Esthec decking plus there is Esthec feature cap around the back edge of the settee.  A polished stainless ensign staff is aft in the center.  To the port side aft on the deck is a curved stairway down to the main aft deck.

Master Stateroom equipment includes:

There are boarding gates to either side of the Aft deck where sea stair boarding steps can attach for entry.  Dimmable overhead lighting, with additional lights over entry gates and stairways.  A comfortable aft settee lounge with Release teak inlayed table and four teak/stainless/canvas chairs.  Stereo speakers are in the overhead.  Esthec decking and cap surround the aft settee; covered side decks lead forward with doors to enter guest foyer on starboard side and galley on port side.  Also on port side deck is integral storage for the carbon fiber sea stairs, both side decks have throwable life rings.  From either side of the aft deck are 4 steps leading down to the cockpit, both openings have stainless safety gates.  A passarelle boarding ramp can deploy from the starboard side steps, it is aligned with the transom gate and can be extended six feet beyond the transom.  There are rope handrails for the 20" wide passarelle and it has local control or a wireless remote control.  In the rear corners of the aft deck are hawsers, mooring bollocks, and Maxwell 4000 hydraulic capstans.  The forward side of the aft deck has a cabinet with solid surface countertop and storage beneath. To port is a passage door to stairway into the engine compartment.  To the starboard side is a curved stairway with Esthec steps leading up to the bridge afterdeck.

Moving back to the interior and down the carpeted and lighted central stairway we arrive at a marble foyer area where there are three ensuite guest staterooms.  The forward side of the foyer has mirrored display shelf with a brass sculpture of leaping porpoise and doors to either side, port side is to the laundry room leading into the crew quarters.  The starboard door opens to: 

VIP Stateroom 1: This stateroom has a queen berth arranged athwartships with marble topped nightstands to either side with three drawers below each.  Above the nightstands are mirrored panels with flexible reading lights and designer wall sconces with backlit stone features.  Above the berth headboard are two portlights with a Silhouette shade.  The forward side of the carpeted stateroom inboard has a two-door, cedar-lined hanging locker with three more drawers in the bottom.  Next to it, is the entry to the head with designer vanity and faucet with integral sink and mirror above. Inboard is a glass shower enclosure with rain head and wand shower fixture. Marble sole, Tecma head, and a portlight with Duette shade.  Across from the foot of the berth is a small desk area with bookshelf, phone set, and inset mounted Samsung 32-inch HDTV.  The desk hutch area is finished wood and attractive; there is a colorful piece of abstract artwork on the staterooms aft wall.  The bedspread is a gray toned design with texture and complimentary decor pillows and shams.

VIP Stateroom 2: The stateroom is aft of the stairway to the port side.  This stateroom has a queen berth with is positioned fore and aft with marble nightstands to either side with one drawer beneath each.  Above the nightstands are the mirrored panels, flexible reading lights, and wall sconces matching the other VIP stateroom. There is a phone set on the inboard nightstand.  In this stateroom the portlight is outboard from the berth and light can be adjusted by the Silhouette blinds.  Inboard of the berth is a double-door, cedar-lined hanging locker with 6 drawers at the bottom.  Just forward of the closet on the wall is an artwork piece with colorful leaping porpoise.  On the forward side of the stateroom is a small bookcase followed by the entrance to the head.  The head is finished identically with the other VIP head, with a slightly different vanity configuration.  On the forward wall outside the head is mounted a 32-inch Samsung HDTV. The bedspread is a beige toned design with texture and complimentary decor pillows and shams. 

Twin Guest Stateroom: The stateroom is to starboard side aft of the stairwell landing.  Twin berths are fore and aft, separated by a marble topped nightstand with drawer below and flexible reading lights to either side.  The phone set is on the nightstand, and a 19-inch Samsung HDTV is inset on the aft side of the closet cabinet. The outboard wall has the portlight with shade, inboard is a hidden pullman dropdown extra berth if needed.  Just forward of the pullman on the wall is a colorful artwork piece of a swimming sea turtle.  Forward is a small bookcase and two cabinets between the cabin door and the entry to the head.  This head is finished equally to the other two lower deck staterooms, including the rain head shower and marble sole.  Forward side of the stateroom outboard is the two door, cedar-lined hanging locker with 6 drawers in the bottom.  The bedspreads are gray toned design with texture and have complimentary decor pillows.

The port side aft door from the lower foyer landing is the entry to the laundry room.  Miele Commercial laundry units (4) are stacked on the forward wall.  Across the room there are upper and lower cabinets with a white solid surface countertop, a stainless sink, and steam press. Inboard there is a closet with cleaning tools and a Miele rotary iron station.  Under cabinet lighting in addition to the overhead LEDs and a portlight.  There is also a 24-inch wall mounted Samsung TV and ship phone system handset.

Just forward is a connecting door to the crew lounge.  The Crew lounge has a raised U-shaped leatherette settee with rectangular teak table (comfortable dining for 4).  To the inboard side is a console with refrigerator, sink, microwave, countertop, and cabinetry.  A Maretron ship's monitor display, Furuno BNWAS panel and keyboard, VHF radio, and ship's phone handset are all also mounted here.  Additional cabinetry and shelf storage are in a separate console on the forward wall.  A door opens into the companionway where there is a stairway up to the galley aft and doors for the two crew staterooms forward.

There are two ensuite crew staterooms.  There is a stairway leading down from the galley which is the primary access to the crew stateroom companionway.  The starboard side stateroom has upper and lower bunks, and each one has a wall mounted Samsung TV.  There are two hanging lockers with cedar lining and 4 drawers. The top bunk has portlight and Silhouette shade.  The ship phone system handset is on the wall near the door.  Moving forward towards the bow is the head with solid surface vanity top with mirrored sundries cabinet, marine toilet and frosted glass door to the shower stall forward.  These crew staterooms and heads are fitted with the same finish level as the guest staterooms.

To the portside from the companionway is the captain cabin.  This stateroom has a tapered double berth with a nightstand next to it with 3 drawers below and a flexible reading light. Mounted on the wall by the nightstand are a VHF radio, Maretron ships monitor panel, Furuno BNWAS watch remote and emergency alarm button. Athwartships above the berth is a fold-down pullman berth.  There is a portlight with shade and several storage shelves to the outboard side.  A large, cedar-lined, hanging locker with a safe mounted inside is forward as well as a wall-mounted Samsung HDTV.  Additional drawers are below the hanging locker. Forward is the ensuite head with solid surface vanity, undermounted sink, marine toilet and frosted glass door to the shower stall. 

The boat deck is accessed from the center of the Portuguese bridge; the boat deck has two diesel inboard soft-side yacht tenders with duo-prop sterndrives.  Between them is a Nautical Structures 5000# crane. which can launch tenders to either side.  The tenders are secured on aluminum deck chocks on top of Esthec decking and there is a partition wall at the forward side to shelter the area from water on deck when in high seas.  Ahead of the partition is the polished stainless ground tackle on a non-skid finished deck.  There are two Maxwell 6000 hydraulic windlasses with capstan drums and band brakes; two chain stoppers with tensioners and stainless rollers and chutes which extend forward through the bow.  Dual CQR Ultra stainless anchors with 350' and 500' of stud link chain will hold position confidently.  A raised watertight hatch opens to a ladder into the anchor locker.  In addition to the chain bins there is a chest freezer here which is generally used for trash storage.  Just aft of the hatch opening is the mounted ships bell and safety railing.  On the bow peak is a polished stainless jackstaff.  On the aft end of the boat deck on both sides there are pocket compartments where two 16-man Viking life rafts are positioned with hydrostatic release.  There is a diesel fueling hose for the tenders which is accessible from the aft cockpit.

Tenders: Custom built by Chapman Transition; they are 19' and 22', both with identical Yanmar diesel motors and Volvo Penta duo-prop sterndrives.  These are center console helm style boats with aft back-to-back seating consoles and large aft platforms and boarding railings.  The 22' has a fold-down bow ramp, seating ahead of the console, and a Bimini top.  Both boats have Garmin GPS/Chart plotters, Vhf radios, and Fusion stereos.

The cockpit is approximately 10 feet long, full beam, integral to the hull, and is designed for offshore fishing.  There is a Release Marine Trillion teak fighting chair on an offset gooseneck stanchion in the center of the cockpit.  The surrounding gunwales have Esthec curved down coverboards with a large transom live bait well.  

To the starboard side is a walk-through opening transom door with gate and keeper latch.  Ten flush mounted rod holders are in the gunwales plus the fighting chair has ten striking rod holders on the arms and a rocket launcher/rigging tray-backrest with five more rod holders.  The deck is Esthec and on the starboard side is a large, below deck, insulated fish box which has a dump for crushed ice.  There are a set of carbon fiber outriggers (stowable) on Rupp radial bases on the aft corners of the bridge.  The captain has speaker intercom from the bridge and a 360-degree articulating camera mounted above the aft deck.  

Inside the lazarette there is a tackle center with extensive storage and bait freezer drawers.  Also stored are a large fish cleaning table which mounts on the rod holders and a large aluminum swim ladder.  A pair of LED cockpit flood lights are molded into the aft bridge overhead.  There are also 4 Sea Vision Underwater Lights along the transom.  This cockpit was not an afterthought and has been utilized extensively with abundant fishing success.

The primary entry to the lazarette is through a watertight entry door from the cockpit. The flooring is diamond plate and 4 steps down into the area immediately to starboard, a cube ice machine.  Just forward are the ships freshwater systems, including 2 Torrid water heaters with a hot water loop, 2 FCI Neptune water makers (1275 and 2500 g/p/d), freshwater pumps with pressure boosting, UV sterilizer/filter system, and a HEM water softener.  There is a hose reel above containing diesel fueling hose/nozzle and Fill Rite meter to service the tenders.  The shore power cables have a storage barrel here also.  To the portside of the lazarette is a True commercial two-door freezer followed by a workbench/tackle rigging table with bench vice and deep basin work sink.  Below the bench is a pair of True freezer drawers which had been used for bait.  Across and aft is a large cabinet which has been a fishing tackle storage locker followed by a double level Snap-on tool chest.  Next aft are three locking hardware cabinets with screws, nuts, bolts, and resources to repair most things aboard.  Outboard is the emergency steering station with wheel and rudder angle indicator, also here is a ships phone handset.

Moving forward through another watertight door into the engine room, immediately to the starboard side is an AC (208v) generator/shore power switch panel and circuit breaker array; there are seamless transfer and auto switching functions. This vessel's electrical system has been designed by Gulf Coast Power & Control Inc. and is three-phase, grounded neutral, US standard 60Hz.  Behind the starboard side panel are two ASEA AC25-3 Q-series shore power frequency converters.  To the center of the engine room is the DC (24v) system monitoring panel, battery shutoff switching, and circuit breakers.  The batteries are inside the center engine room console and there are 3 Newmar Phase Three smart chargers on the forward bulkhead. Back to the entryway on the portside of the engine room there is a ships phone handset, the Honeywell Notifier alarm panel, and Fire alarm/shut down switches. Next is the ABT/TRAC integrated hydraulic control pack which gets power takeoff from the main engine gears; also, an AC electric pump for "at anchor" stabilizer operation.  Next to the portside is a curved stairway leading up to the aft deck fiddle door entry to the engine room.  Behind the stairway is the HVAC Dometic chiller system with three 10-ton units (all renewed late 2025) and when needed, heat via an immersion heat unit (S/Rs, Salon, Library, PH handlers also have heat strips).  On the portside of engine room above is an air handler with digital thermostat.  Outboard of the main engines are the two 50kW Northern Lights generators in sound shields, their control panels with auto-start feature are mounted on the forward bulkhead. A single generator can power the full boat in most conditions; there is also a Sephco Smartload load bank.  On the forward bulkhead to the portside is the fuel manifold system.  Clearly labeled, there is a transfer pump with 6 fuel tanks and operation from a day tank (100 gallons).  Fuel is conditioned via a Schroeder Industries coalescing and particulate filtration system, plus there are priming pumps.  Tank levels are monitored by a Maretron digital system and backed up with three Tank Tender pneumatic monitors on the bulkhead.  Above is a Powerex air compressor to power the horn cluster, plus air tool connections in several locations.  A refrigerated air dryer system is adjoining.  Next on the bulkhead to starboard is the bilge pumping manifold with labeled gate valves.  The bilge pump and the fire main pump are next to each other and are interchangeable, both are wired with soft start switches.  Now on the starboard side of the engine room is an independent hydraulic control pack for the passarelle. Next is the Headhunter Tidal Wave HMX 6004 waste treatment plant.  A Delta T engine room ventilation system is in use, with vent damper emergency closure function.  A Fail-Safe Max galvanic isolator unit is in use and a Siemens CAPAC cathodic monitor.

• CAT engine control binnacles are at Pilothouse, Flybridge, and at each wing docking station
• YachtController wireless remote engine and bow thruster control
• CAT emergency backup control panels are at Pilothouse and in engine room

The NORTHLAND hull is welded steel using ASTM A36 steel and its superstructure is welded Aluminum using 5000 and 6000 series marine grade aluminum alloys. Built to ABS A1 class regulations with the structure designed to provide watertight integrity utilizing watertight doors, hatches, and windows.  All decks have camber to avoid water accumulation, and freeing ports are arranged are per the Classification Society regulation.  All (except anchor area of foredeck) decks are fitted with Esthec Nautical Decking material.  This is a Dutch made teak alternative which is extremely solid, durable, and easily maintained.  Color is Biscuit with dark gray seams. Solid Esthec is also used in the cockpit in place of covering board/coaming, as a cap rail accent centerline aft, on all exterior stairs, and as exterior overhead trim on all three decks.  Polished stainless steel name plates are on the flybridge sides and the transom.  Fuel fill stations are to either side deck and have Camlock style fittings and containment drains to the oily water tank.  

Beneath the waterline there is a bulbous bow with a 100hp hydraulic proportional bow thruster.  The ABT stabilizers have 4 actuator fins and there is a keel which the propellers are well above.  There are shaft and rudder tubes and 5-blade Michigan Nibral propellers. Becker Marine Systems high-lift, flap rudders enable remarkable maneuverability.  The hull is painted with Awlgrip HDT, primary color is Castle Tan and there are 2 topcoats of clear.  Deckhouse is painted with Awlgrip 2000 and color is Stark White.  Anti-fouling is Black Sea Hawk Biocop - Halkron on the props/running gear/rudders/thruster prop blades.  Bottom job is scheduled for mid-July 2026.  There are tan Sunbrella covers for virtually everything on the flybridge, both tenders, the bow windlasses and ships bell, search light, air horns, fighting chair, and exterior tables/chairs/settees.

Here is an original owner, USA built and flagged yacht which reflects the quality and functionality of its proud shipbuilder.  Proven by travel, NORTHLAND has covered some miles.  The captain has been by this boat since the first steel was cut and lived at the shipyard during most of its construction.  His typical travel operating is to run 1300rpm at 55% load, making 9.5 to 10 knots and burning a total of about 20 gallons per hour.  Trip possibilities are remarkable.
